You may have noticed (or heard about) a few Bartonville Fire Department vehicles and personnel on campus a short while ago. At approximately 10:30 a.m., a CO detector alerted us to a potential issue in the Metal Shop. Out of an abundance of caution, we contacted the Bartonville Fire Department to assist in checking the area and ensuring the safety of our students and staff. Their equipment did detect a slight elevation in CO levels; however, the levels were not elevated enough to pose a concern for students or staff in the area.

CO detection is a new component of our recently upgraded fire alarm system. Our previous system did not have CO detection integrated into the fire alarm panel. Previously, areas such as the kitchen/cafeteria, metal shop, and boiler rooms had standalone CO detectors. As we become familiar with the new system, we anticipate there may be some adjustments needed to ensure the detectors are operating and calibrated appropriately. We will work with our alarm company to review today’s alert and make any necessary adjustments.

As always, we will err on the side of caution when it comes to the safety of our students and staff. We appreciate the quick response and assistance of the Bartonville Fire Department, and we will continue to work closely with our local first responders, alarm company, and Ameren whenever necessary to ensure a safe environment for staff and students.
